Cowboy Bob's Ropes

Cowboy Bob uses 3 ropes in his circus act. Each rope has a different length.

The two smallest ropes have a total length of 19 feet. The two largest ropes have a combined length of 27 feet. The average of the lengths of the 3 ropes is 12 feet.

What is the sum of the lengths of the small and large ropes?

Extra: What is the area of the triangle that would be formed if Bob laid the 3 ropes on the ground, end-to-end?
